Fischler College Hosts Active Shooter Training

On Wednesday, October 2, NSU’s Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice (FCE&SCJ) hosted an Active Shooter Presentation for its faculty and staff. The presentation was conducted by FCE&SCJ Assistant Professor, Ph.D. Grace Telesco, in coordination with the college’s Sociodrama Club, and Pat McGowan, from NSU’s Public Safety Department.

Grace TelescoPh.D., a retired Lieutenant who served for 20 years with the NYPD, was the Chairperson of the Behavior Science Department at the NYC Police Academy. She is currently the Faculty Advisor for the college’s Sociodrama Club. Current students and Sociodrama Club members, Joshua Enfinger (the shooter), and David Troxell (SWAT officer), participated in the training. Both students are working for the Sociodrama Community Initiative through a federal grant. The Sociodrama Community Initiative is charged with providing Sociodrama programs for diverse audiences and populations to meet educational and behavioral objectives in the community. The initiative has many exciting projects coming up such as, “Red Flags”: a Sociodrama about dating relationship violence, sexual assault, and substance abuse for Early Immersion Learning Freshman and a Cultural Diversity, as well as a training on autism for the Dental School. Actors usually come from the Sociodrama Club, led by student president, Norlando Padilla.
