NSU Miami Campus and College of Psychology Hold Human Trafficking Training for Professionals

Recently, the NSU Miami Campus partnered with the College of Psychology and held an the Vital Human Trafficking Training for Helping Professionals. The presenter, Jared S. Rose, Ph.D., LPCC-S(OH), NCC, EMDRC brought over 25 years of expertise in working with individuals who have been trafficked. He discussed the social justice problem, it’s impact on victims, and the necessary support to assist individuals through the recovery process. The event drew about 140 participants from various sectors of the community to the Miami Campus. Participants came together to increase their awareness and skills to help with this devastating.

NSU’s Miami Campus to Host Grant Writing Workshop

Join the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Miami Campus on Saturday, April 13 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. for a grant writing workshop, which is designed for educators and not-for-profit professionals and will provide an overview of the methods, concepts, and tools used for winning grant funding presented by Dana Fredebaugh, Ph.D. from NSU.

Discussion topics include:

  • how to identify a viable project
  • how to read and understand a Request for Proposals (RFP)
  • how to write the basic components of a proposal so it matches what the fundraiser wishes to fund
  • what needs to be done once funding is received

Orlando Physician Assistant Program Wins the Challenge Bowl

NSU’s Orlando Physician Assistant Program comes away with the win at the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants (FAPA) Student Challenge Bowl. There were 27 teams representing multiple universities from across the state.  NSU was represented by 9 teams from the 4 programs (Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Ft. Myers, and Orlando).  All NSU teams performed well, with a Ft. Lauderdale team and an Orlando team advancing to the final round.  The winning team from Orlando includes Jordan Walker, Fadi Essak, and Jeremy Gordon.  These students will now compete in the National Challenge Bowl at the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) conference in Denver, Colorado.

The Future of Medicine is Integrated Health Care: The Case of the Opioid Crisis

School Violence and Prevention Conference: Lessons from the Front Lines

Join the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Jacksonville Campus on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. for “School Violence andNSU Jacksonville Campus Event - School Violence and Prevention_ Lessons from the Front Lines Prevention Conference: Lessons from the Front Lines”. It is essential that schools know the incidence of school violence and be up-to-date on the best safety and prevention practices. This presentation will review numerous national initiatives that have focused on school safety and the recommendations from a variety of foundations started by parents who lost their child in tragic school shootings. Lunch will be provided.

During this event, attendees will:

  • participate in a suicide and violence prevention training by Scott Poland, Ed.D, professor, codirector, NSU Office of Suicide and Violence Prevention
  • take part in an active shooter training led by Wayne R. Clark, Sr, M.P.A, assistant chief, school safety specialist, district emergency preparedness coordinator, Duval County School Police Department
  • review the actual incidence of school shootings
  • identify the motivation of school shooters
  • analyze various school safety practices
