CAHSS Invites You to the The Theory of Creativity Art and Design Senior Exhibit

2019 Senior Exhibitition The Theory of Creativity

NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is pleased to invite you to “The Theory of Creativity Art and Design Senior Exhibit,” held February 20-March 6, 2019. Each year, students enrolled in ARTS 4995 Senior Project within the Department of Performing and Visual Arts (DPVA) get to craft their own exhibition. As a group they collectively select a name and theme, design promotion materials, and market it. This exhibition serves as an annual opportunity for graduating students to curate a culmination of their work while at NSU in a gallery setting. This exposes their pieces on a public scale, and allows them to openly discuss their artistic intentions to viewers. The exhibit opens on Feb. 20th 2019 and runs through March 6, 2019, in Gallery 217, located on the 2nd floor on the north end of the Don Taft University Center.

The opening reception is on February 20 from 5:00-7:00pm in Gallery 217. Admission is free and open to the public.

For more information, call 954-262-7620, and please visitwww.cahss.nova.edu/departments/pva.com for all of the upcoming events.

CAHSS Hosts Sheli Muniz from NBC6 in DFT Crisis Management Class

Sheli Muniz in DFT Crisis Management Class with Dr. Pei-Fen Li

Students in the Department of Family Therapy’s class in Crisis Management in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) were given the assignment of reaching out to local community leaders and exploring how they manage crisis. The class is taught by Pei-Fen Li, Ph.D., faculty in DFT. Third year DMFT doctoral student Nicole Linardi and second year DMFT doctoral student Lauren Padron invited NBC6’s Morning News Anchor Sheli Muniz to address Crisis Management and what that looks like in her line of work—the news. She opening up the conversation on internal and external crises experienced and managed by her and her news team at NBC6. Other related issues such as the advocacy, self-care, and mental health were discussed in managing these crises. The importance of bridging the gap between the stigma of mental health and the public’s need in seeking services was also discussed during this talk. Doctoral student, Rachel Merlin, LMFT, had the opportunity to be interviewed by NBC6’s very own “Man in the Mix”, Brandon Lopez, who bravely discussed his own struggles with anxiety and depression in an effort to shed light on mental illness, reduce stigma, and provide resources for our local community during NBC6’s Mental Health Awareness Week. Merlin’s two-part interview can be found on the links below:
