Fresh off a career-high 39 points in Nova Southeastern’s convincing win over No. 7 Florida Southern, Connor Zinaich has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office. The honor marks the second straight for Zinaich. FULL RELEASE

This past fall Nova Southeastern University Aquatics participated and won the first ever City of Fort Lauderdale Lifeguard Competition.  The competition was held at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic complex, home to International Swimming Hall of Fame.  NSU Aquatics convincingly outperformed five other participating municipalities and YMCA lifeguard teams to be awarded the honor.  The competition consisted of a series of scenarios in which the teams had to respond appropriately to various emergencies. There were water and land-based emergencies varying from pump room accidents, active drownings, multi-victim rescues, CPR/AED response, as well as head, neck, and spinal injuries.  NSU Aquatics had participated in many competitions before, only to come up just short on various occasions. But under the new direction of aquatic coordinator Rialto Heller and assistant director Austin Harris, they were finally able to win it all. The NSU Aquatics Institute prides itself in being a leader in aquatic education and the performance of their lifeguard team clearly exemplified the ideals instilled in each of their staff members to exceed industry standards.

On the heels of two impressive performances, including a 30-point effort in an upset win over No. 12 Barry, Nova Southeastern point guard David Dennis has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office. Nova Southeastern women’s basketball starting guard Claire McMahon received her first weekly honor by the Sunshine State Conference, capturing the Defensive Player of the Week title after the opening week of league play. FULL RELEASE

Following an upset of then-No. 12 Barry, along with a sound 19-point win at Embry-Riddle, Nova Southeastern has jumped all the way to No. 9 in this week’s National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll. FULL RELEASE

 Head coach Jim Crutchfield is off to an impressive start in his second recruiting cycle with Nova Southeastern, as the men’s basketball program landed a pair of early signees for the 2019 class in both Jake Maranville and Tommy Sala.  FULL RELEASE

During NSU’s Homecoming celebrations, former Sharks pitcher Nick Carris expanded his growing awards list; but for his work beyond the field. Now a highly-respected pharmacist, Carris was named for the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from the Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography, where he earned his B.S. in Biology, graduating with distinction in 2008. FULL RELEASE

On the heels of a stellar sophomore campaign, forward Sebastian Loibl has been selected as a Third Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. The award becomes the second-ever handed out to a Nova Southeastern player since the program shifted to NCAA Division II in 2002, and first since Matthew Parry earned All-America honors back in 2004. FULL RELEASE

Following prominent seasons which resulted in a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament for Nova Southeastern, both Emma Heikkila and Adanna Edwards have been recognized as all-south region honorees by United Soccer Coaches. Heikkila was selected as a first team selection, while Edwards landed on the second team. FULL RELEASE 

The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team has beefed up the local fanfare for its Dec. 13 date with the announcement of the inaugural South Florida Showdown doubleheader event. Adding to the existing face-off with local rival St. Thomas Bobcats at 7:00 p.m., the Sharks will also host Florida high school powerhouse competition between NSU University School and Westminster Academy at 5:30 p.m. in the “Shark Tank” at Rick Case Arena, housed in the Don Taft University Center. FULL RELEASE
