Parking at Nova Southeastern University with PayByPhone

Visitors parking on our NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/ Davie campus can now skip the pay stations and purchase parking with PayByPhone.  Acting as an alternative to cash payments, the mobile parking app offers a convenient way for visitors to pay, while allowing the university’s parking services to easily manage these locations on campus.

In addition to making payments easier, the app provides text reminders prior to a session expiring, and the ability to extend a parking session remotely. Drivers who are pressed for time can even begin a parking session without registering for the app.

PayByPhone’s support for multiple languages makes the application accessible to diverse student communities.

Ready to start using PayByPhone? Begin a parking session immediately by downloading the app or by visiting paybyphone.com. To access all of PayByPhone’s features, register for a free account today.

For more information on PayByPhone, visit paybyphone.com.

In this position, Dr. Rosman will be responsible for developing and enhancing the college’s strategic initiatives, long-term planning and policy setting. He will also lead the faculty and staff in curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement and will cultivate relationships with alumni and donors.

Dr. Rosman most recently served as dean and professor in the Silberman College of Business at Fairleigh Dickinson University, overseeing programs at its two New Jersey campuses (Metro and Florham) and the Vancouver, British Columbia campus. In addition, Dr. Rosman worked with faculty to create minors addressing specific industry needs and business courses tailored for the arts.

He has been actively involved in fundraising, helping secure more than $3.5 million. Rosman’s outreach efforts have included actively engaging the College’s alumni, forming a “Next Gen” Board of Advisors, and creating signature fundraising events such the anniversary of the naming of the College and its successor event, a Hall of Fame dinner.

Prior to joining FDU in 2014, Dean Rosman was the Dean of the College of Management at LIU Post (2012-2104) and a faculty member at the University of Connecticut (1989-2012). While at UConn, he was the founding director of the MS in Accounting Program and served as director from 1998 to 2012. In 2002, this program became the University of Connecticut’s first asynchronous online graduate degree.

Dean Rosman’s primary research focus has been on how decision makers use information with the objective of identifying ways to improve decision behavior. He has published research in the Journal of Accounting and Economics; Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance; Auditing: A Journal of Theory and Practice; Academy of Management Journal; Journal of Behavioral Decision Making; Journal of Business Venturing; Journal of Business Research; Issues in Accounting Education; Behavioral Research in Accounting; Review of Accounting and Finance; and Research in Accounting Regulation.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as the next dean for NSU’s College of Business,” Dr. Rosman said. “I look forward to helping the college provide students with a competitive edge as we continue to develop new impactful programs focused on providing competitive career advantages to our students. Mr. Huizenga left an amazing legacy both in the business world and in the world of higher education at NSU – my goal is to live up to that legacy by helping today’s students become tomorrow leaders.”

The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) has recognized Dr. Rosman for developing best practices in online education (2007) and for excellence in distance learning teaching (2011) and he was awarded UConn’s highest teaching distinction, University Fellow, in 2001. Coming Soon: Bitlocker To Go Encryption For NSU Owned Windows Desktops and Laptops

The Office of Innovation and Information Technology will be enabling BitLocker To Go encryption for external hard drives and USB flash drives used with NSU owned Windows Desktops and Laptops on October 21, 2019.

How does BitLocker work? Bitlocker To Go is a Microsoft Windows feature that allows you to password protect and encrypt your portable device including external hard drives and USB flash drives when an attempt is made to connect to an NSU owned Windows Desktop or Laptop.

How will it benefit  you and NSU? Encrypting removable media means that if it is lost or stolen, NSU’s data will not be compromised and demonstrates due diligence. We have taken the direction of using this technology across all NSU Windows devices in order to prevent the exfiltration of all sensitive data.

To learn more about BitLocker To Go visit our Bitlocker FAQ website located at https://www.nova.edu/oiit/bitlocker/

Halmos College Promotes Coral Education Through Coral Adoption

Corals are in crisis. Students of all ages need to be educated about stony corals impact in ocean ecology. On June 30, 2011, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrived at the Oceanographic Center (OC) in two 18-wheel trucks and donated 29 pallets of seized Pacific coral. Richard Dodge, Ph.D., OC dean, welcomed the donation. “The stony coral skeleton specimens will be useful for research, education, outreach, and display to provide information for understanding about economically important and biologically and ecologically valuable corals and coral reefs,” said Dodge.

Fast forward to 2019 and these dried specimens of scleractinian (“stony”) corals from the Solomon Islands confiscated by U.S. Customs and donated to Nova Southeastern University are being made available for research and education purposes only, on long-term loan. As of September 2019, 84 coral colonies have been loaned out to schools and educational institutions from the Tri-County area.

If interested in obtaining a loan for education or research, please contact Melissa Dore, Ed.D. at missy@nova.edu to see if you qualify.
